opening up with the deep space atmospherics of quiet life the album immediately transports you to another world. the title track is then a melodically lush and uplifting affair with curious synth patterns ebbing and flowing beneath crisp percussion. tracks like we search for answers combine organic, wooden textures with more synthetic and trippy synth sounds that are as far away from your standard sample packs as can be imagined. across the course of the album there are dark, moody and emotive pieces like worship (previously released in extended form on the mdl02 single) featuring qzen who reads a poem by patience agbabi in tantalising fashion as well as heavyweight, dubbed out techno groovers like shadow theory. make it true (of which seth troxler will be releasing an extended edit on his play it say it label, complete with high profile remixes) is another great collab featuring the vocals of jojo de freq, and the track itself is a harmonious, radiant house jam that is humid and human in equal measure. the otherworldly, snaking feel free again showcases berkson & what s ability to coax alluring emotions out of their machines and closer logan five wraps things up in suitably spangled, textural fashion. despite the fact much of this album will work on a dancefloor in the hands of the right dj, there s an invention and musicality to it that renders the whole thing hugely listenable away from the club. a testament to berkson & what s analogue invention and fluid ideas, keep up appearances really is a master electronic oeuvre.

anton kubikov, for more than a decade well known as half of scsi-9, just landed with his next solo ep for the new moscow-based label mayak. following the label s concept anton produced two long play ambient-dub tracks. based on the classic sound, he carefully weaves in new elements that comfortably wrap up the listener in his long journey. and if the first side is more like of a leisurely stroll in a park, the second is a deep ocean dive.

with this release, anne arbors jakbeat man delivers 6 minutes of electronic mania, a piece of repetitious, dance-inducing machine funk with a hook that hits you like a punch in the face with a velvet glove, brooding pads, and a top line like steel drums on acid. d marc cantu twists the sound of detroit techno and chicago house with his own visceral production style and makes it his own.

we dont question the relevance of techno in the current musical landscape, but look back ten years or so and youll figure things were a little stagnant and uninspiring. the techno scene in berlin certainly did a lot to spruce new life in the genre and people like merbeck with his vault series releases were somehow pioneers of the industrial-influenced sound we now celebrate and take for granted. now landing on m_rec ltd. with a 3 track ep, the berlin resident fuses his aggressive sound with the hypnotic, dark-room elements that have defined the labels vision. m_rec ltd. starts 2015 with a nasty release: three tracks that fit any moment of a proper techno set.

christopher scott leary aka ochre is someone who has established himself via his own means, namely his own bandcamp page, as well as on labels like baselogic, toytronic, with a stunning lp in 2004, benbecula. as such, dutch label shipwrec have snapped him up for a fantastic new ep that showcases his style, which touches on ambient and downtempo as well as lushly melodic electronica, in all its glory.

alex font repeats in oblack- only like the best and he does it showing the most acidic and clubby version of that the real house that permeates their sound from start to finish. this acid flow is the fifteenth reference of the pastorial label commanded by snna and nacho arauz- from ibiza the valencian alex font presents us with an original passage of festive house, trotter and no-friend of the depressions where the legendary sound of the roland tb-303 is the pacesetter, disguises the soul and adds foundation to the track. and, since it breaks the acidic sound through antonomasia, this acid flow, shows his playful and fun side. this is a bright and optimistic theme, designed and checked to make us dance with a smile on our face, no doubt. a bare-chested tribute to those early 90s when electronics was all about joy and effervescence.

over the years electric deluxe has become a beacon for established names to test out new projects, and its with great pleasure we welcome another unknown into the fold. arad is the fresh-faced solo guise of dara smith, best known as one half of lakker. together with partner ian mcdonell, the pair have been making music for over a decade, in recent years honing their insidious and deftly idiosyncratic take on techno for labels like blueprint, stroboscopic artefacts and r&s.

jonas kopp pumps the drums hard on opener shibu. it is pure peak-time material, fit with siren like synths, heavy kicks and hi-hats to get the shoulders moving. kopps tracks are always masterfully tailored for the dancefloor, and this is no exception the six-and-a-half-minute ride is richly detailed with ups, downs and subtle changes. dadub take the record deeper with force continuum abuse.

is it balearic recordings latest is the reflextion ep from baldelli & rocca. 3 electronic disco bombs and a quality remix from ray mang. rteflextion is a driving synth italo disco stomper. mr mang adds a little acid and a touch odf house. side b s first track is a classically italo disco dancefloor gem lots of symth action a flappy percussion give this a hypnotic quality ready for some smoke drenched dancefloors. out to lunch is a more quircky take on the same theme. like a lost maxi 12 b-side pf an italian elctropop ftrack from the late 80 s. great ep.

while the saying goes that writing about music is like dancing about architecture, this seems to be rather unfitting when it comes to artistic works like electric indigos release for the next installment on scr-dark series, the techno-leaning sub-label of berlins suicide circus club enterprise of over 20 years of existence.

after an a-side debut on m_red ltd’s heady 10’’ series, shadowy outfit overall severity return with their first full outing for key vinyl. much like the slabs of steely sonic wares that have paved the way before it, “knowing the healing” presents three works of on-point dance floor material we’ve come to associate with the underground tastemaker. “explain pain” is the ep’s aggravated opener. a pounding kick and itchy percussion unfurls into a din of claps and noises, spliced with melodious peals and a low-slung sort of groove. “backfiring nerves” is one of those cool peak-time weapons: frantic yet subtle, deeply groovy and plied with much-loved vintage crashes. “parasympathetic” then concludes in the form of a chugging basement bomb awash with bleary acid tones, crystal hats and muted dissonant chimes. all in all, “knowing the healing” marks a powerful entry into the ring from these ones-to-watch newcomers.

earlier this year i received three tracks of hazy brazilian dancehall-psych, precise bursts of trembling energy and breathless meaning, invoking cellular consciousness, seed consciousness, the brain of cellular life... odes glorifying the dna code...i gazed up at the grey gate of heaven with a foreign eye and yelled >what is this shit!?< i got my answer: >cherry garcia man...thats all you need to know<.no further questions! golf channel every time!

slow town records has really picked up the pace this year, delivering essential 12- singles from riccio and qx-i, amongst others. here, they round of 2014 with an ep of positively edible deep house from fouk man hans peeman. in typical peeman fashion, there s plenty of soul to the liquid beats and rich chords of -prologue-, while -monologue- is an attractive saunter through classic detroit deep house with the restless energy of a chicago production. mr k-s remixes the title track, delivering a heavily percussive version that sounds like a plea to head towards the dancefloor, pronto. a touch darker and altogether heavier, it offers an excellent alternative to peeman s eyes-wide-shut original.

after being returned from his abduction by aliens from the hidden planet nibiru, dj overdose was given an alien synthesizer the haex-hrll as a thank you for all the cerebral research the aliens did on him. on returning back to earth all dj overdose had to do was finish the 6 tracks the aliens had started to work on, which became this ep. straight forward techno hop electro funk without any fancy-pants pretentious hooha. its like a black and white movie which makes you think why the hell is there colors anyway?! after completion, the only record label he could imagine being fit for such rawness would be viewlexx... and so here it is.
